Welcome to the Izaak Walton League of America - Newton, Iowa

Founded in 1922, the Izaak Walton League is one of the nation's oldest and most respected conservation organizations. With a powerful grassroots network of nearly 300 local chapters nationwide, the League takes a common-sense approach toward protecting our country's natural heritage and improving outdoor recreation opportunities for all Americans. About Newton Chapter
Located at 889 Hwy F36 W. in Newton, Iowa, the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League was chartered September 20, 1945. The forty acres of land were the club is located today was purchased in 1950. The Club House and 3.5 acre pond was built by club members and dedicated in August of 1951. Over the years, an addition has been added on to the Club House,  and the grounds include a full trap and rifle range and archery range.

Current membership is around 600. The Club House is open to members Monday through Saturday at 1:00 p.m. featuring a full service bar. Membership meetings are held weekly on Thursday evenings with supper served at 7:00 p.m. Board meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month at 6:00 p.m.  Listed are a few of the many activities the Newton Ikes are involved in:

  • Highway clean-up are held twice a year 
  • Hunter education programs are held three times a year
  • Sponsor 4-H Club
  • Sponsor High School Trap Club
  • Kid's Fishing Day is held the first Saturday in June
  • Wild Game Feed held every March
  • Scholarships awarded every year
  • Golf outings
  • Motorcycle Poker runs
  • Kid's Easter Egg Hunt
  • Kid's Christmas Party
